Amnesty International

Amnesty International is a NGO (Non Governmental Organization). This means that the organization does not receive funding from the government for their work.

Their motto is that it is better to light a candle then to curse the darkness.

Amnesty International was founded in 1961, by the British lawyer Peter Benenson. He founded the organization after he had published an article called "the forgotten prisoners" this article was about Portuguese students who had raised their glasses for freedom.
This article started a letter campaign to release forgotten prisoners all over the world.

Today the Organization has more than 2.2 million members, supporters and subscribers in over 150 countries and territories, in every region of the world.

Amnesty International works to protect human rights and to release these so called forgotten prisoners.
To do this they use media-attention, direct-appeal campaigns, research and lobbying. After all the years they have been working with this and in these ways they know it works and, it does!

Amnesty International or AI; get all their funding from private donations, and donations from companies and members. The work that Amnesty is doing is really making a difference in the world, and to do this they need your help. And you can help them by signing up as a member by following this link; http://www.amnesty.org/en/how-you-can-help

The Organization does not work with any specific organizations, but they are cooperating with all organizations that has the same goal's as Amnesty International has.

Amnesty International has done a lot of great work since the day they started in July 1961.
One of the latest things that they have done is tat they are helping out with the Olympics in China. Because of the protest's that has occurred in China there are rebels and innocent people that have been imprisoned for saying their opinion. Amnesty is now working to get them released.
They have also not long ago helped released a prisoner from Morocco. He was imprisoned for making a Facebook profile of the Moroccan prince Moulay Rachid. The fact that their work is so successful attracts new members daily. And it also lets people se all those horrible things that is happening all over the world.
They actually get through to people and that is not easy, believe me. And the fact that they have helped people all over the world that has been imprisoned for things they haven't done and things that is irrelevant, and most likely because the government felt like putting people in jail, is truly amazing.

The language they use is mostly English but because there are so many different countries that are members they use translators.

On their official web site, http://amnesty.org/ they have four different languages you can choose among. (English, Spanish, French and one that I can not tell what is.)

To be honest I chose this organization because it was the first one I thought of, but after writing and reading about the organization, I realised that the work they have done and is still doing is so great and amazing that is was and is worth learning more about. And I have also done a presentation on Amnesty International when I was in secondary school.
